Glitter Mailbox

Give your mailman a reason to smile with a shimmering, retro look.

What you need:

  • Standard mailbox
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor White Primer (Note: If painting a plastic mailbox use Krylon Fusion for Plastic White.)
  • Krylon Glitter Blast Cherry Bomb (or any color you desire)
  • Krylon Glitter Blast Clear Sealer
  • Screwdriver
  • Sandpaper
  • Newspaper or drop cloth

How and How Long:

  1. Cover your work area and the floor with newspaper or a drop cloth. Make sure you are in a well ventilated area.
  2. Remove the flag from the mailbox.
  3. If you are painting an old mailbox that is rusty or worn, sand the areas until smooth. The surface should be clean, dry and dull.
  4. Prop the mailbox open side down (with door hanging open) on an object such as a 2x4, foam cube or tall container so that all exterior surfaces are free of obstructions.
  5. Prime the mailbox with Krylon Indoor/Outdoor White Primer. If painting a plastic mailbox, use Krylon Fusion for Plastic White instead. Allow to dry.
  6. Spray multiple, light coats of Krylon Glitter Blast until you reach the level of coverage you want. Allow to dry.
  7. Apply 2-4 coats of Krylon Glitter Blast Clear Sealer. Allow to dry.
  8. You may spray the flag if you wish, repeating the steps above.
  9. Reattach flag.
