Chalkboard Lampshade

I made this Chalkboard Lampshade using Krylon Primer and Chalkboard Paint.

What you need:

  • (1) can Krylon Primer
  • (1) can Krylon Chalkboard Paint
  • A lamp and lampshade

How and How Long:

  1. Prime the lampshade. I’m not sure priming my shade was necessary as it was pretty much a blank canvas and brand new. However, if you are covering an old lampshade or something with a bit of color, priming is always a great fail safe.
  2. Build up several thin coats of Chalkboard paint. My white lampshade took 4 coats.
  3. Add another layer of Chalboard Paint. Just keep building your layers to avoid drips and runs.
  4. Prime the entire shade surface with a piece of chalk to give it a more worn look. To prime, just lay of piece of chalk on it’s side (horizontally) and rub all over the surface. Then use a dry or damp rag (depending on the look you want) to wipe it all off. I used a dry rag to rub my chalk in.
