Headboard Bench

Headboards are plentiful at the curb and at thrift stores. There are many things you can do with a headboard ;my two favorite things to make are benches and signs.

What you need:

  • (1) Can Krylon Dual Spray Paint
  • Headboard and footboard (twin)
  • Saw
  • Screws
  • Drill
  • 1x6 boards for seat (I used scrap flooring)
  • Hammer and nails or nail gun
  • Vinyl letters or Stencils

How and How Long:

  1. Cut the foot board in half (these two pieces will be used for the sides of your bench).
  2. Attach each of these sides to either end of the headboard. I used a pocket hole jig, but you can drill from the back of the headboard into the side (footboard cut in half).
  3. Cut the 1x6 to size for front brace.
  4. Cut seat slats to size.
  5. Nail these to the front brace and the back brace (that is part of the headboard).
  6. Paint your bench. I stained the seat on this bench.
  7. Apply vinyl or stencils to the back of the bench.
  8. Use Krylon Dual to spray several light coats to make your stencil appear like magic.
  9. Sit. Relax. Enjoy!
Approximate project time: 1.5 hours.

What it Costs:

Cost is $15 spray paint and supplies.
