Modern Makeover

These are not expensive vases! I tend to not like to throw things away and I love to reuse and re-purpose items. Here’s a project to help you breath new life into those simple clear vases. It’ll look like a piece of art when you are done that you may just want to put it on display instead of the flowers.

What you need:

  • Krylon Stained Glass Color - Red (#9020)
  • Krylon General Purpose Metallic - Silver (#1406)
  • Glass vase
  • Spool of curling ribbon
  • Painters masking tape
  • Scrap paper

Tips

I like using the curling ribbon because it’s the perfect width to create a nice thin line and wraps easily around the vase. If you are having trouble securing the ribbon onto the glass you can also use Krylon Easy Tack Repositionable Adhesive. Just spray a bit of that onto the ribbon and it will hold securely to the glass. After you are done spraying the Red Stained Glass, and it has completely dried, you can remove the ribbon and then use a wet sponge to wipe off any remaining adhesive from the vase. You can create an entire collection of these modern vases by varying the size and shape of the vases or the colors of paint used.

How and How Long:

  1. Spray the entire inside of the vase with the Krylon Silver Metallic paint #1406. Allow time for it to dry.
  2. Tape one end of the curling ribbon to the inside lip of the vase opening. Wind the ribbon tightly around the vase creating a spiral or criss cross design. Tape at the base of the vase. (You can create any design you like with ribbon or lace or any other design element.)
  3. Cover opening of the vase with scrap paper so the red paint does not get on the inside.
  4. Spray exterior part of the vase with Red Stained Glass paint.
  5. After the paint dries, remove the tape and unwind the ribbon and discard.
Approximate project time: 1.5 hours.

What it Costs:

Approximate cost is $18.
