Tips

Krylon has many specialty primers, paints and finishes that have specific uses for metals, plastics, preventing rust, and protecting from outdoor elements. Look for different colors and textures that are specific to your uses, but don’t be afraid to use products with different specialties as we did here. Krylon’s Fusion for Plastic® paints state clearly on the label that it can be used on various surfaces, including metal, in addition to plastic. Be sure to read labels on the backs of all Krylon’s paints when cross-using to be sure that it will bind to your material. In addition, specialty paints can often be used as primers to provide a safe surface to be topped off in a color of your choice using another specialty product!

How and How Long:

  1. Prepare work surface by layering with newspaper. Separate votives from wrought iron piece. Place votives on work surface upside down. (It helps to place an extra smaller piece of newspaper under each individual votive and wrought iron piece so that you can use the paper to rotate the individual pieces while you spray. This is particularly useful if you are unable to move around your work surface freely.)
  2. Spray votives with several thin layers of Krylon Acrylic Crystal Color in Woodland Brown. This color is translucent and will give the glass more ambiance when light filters through it.
  3. Spray wrought iron with Fusion for Plastic® Textured Shimmer in Cocoa Brown.
  4. Let dry and reassemble.
