Play Kitchen Makeover


  We got this play kitchen as a hand-me-down. It was well made and the kids loved it, but the color scheme left a bit to be desired! In an "ah-ha" moment I realized a little spray paint could transform it into something I was happy to have sitting in my living room!

What you need:

  • 1 can Krylon spray paint primer
  • 3 cans Krylon spray paint - in color of your choice
  • 1 can Krylon metallic spray paint
  • Painter's tape
  • Newpaper for taping off areas
  • Screwdriver

How and How Long:

  1. First I removed all the handles from the set and the plastic "oven door", and gave the entire set a good cleaning.
  2. I put a coat of primer on the bright colored portions of the set (the doors, handles, and even the plastic bowl "sink"!)
  3. Then it's just a matter of lots of light coats of spray paint: All the handles, knobs and the sink got a coat of the silver metallic paint; The body of each appliance :o) got approximately four coats of the blue paint; The oven knobs I just taped off around them and painted instead of removing them.
  4. After everything was dry, I went back in with paint pens and added details: the markings on the oven knob, the H & C on the sink knobs, and the white details on all the appliances.
Approximate project time: 1.5 hours, broken up into smaller 20 minute segments.
