Register Covers

Give any room a quick pick me up by painting the register covers. With a variety of colors and contemporary metallic finishes, Krylon has what you need to complete this easy project.

What you need:

  • 1 can Krylon Interior/Exterior Primer in a color close to your paint color
  • 1 can Krylon Interior/Exterior Paint or Krylon Brushed Metallics in your desired color
  • Medium grit sandpaper
  • Drop cloth or newspaper
  • Tack cloth or lint-free rag

How and How Long:

  1. Cover your work surface with old newspaper or a drop cloth to protect it from overspray.
  2. If your register cover has a bottom piece attached to it, remove it carefully using a screwdriver.
  3. If the surface is glossy or shiny, sand lightly to dull the finish. Wipe surface with a tack cloth or rag to remove sanding residue.
  4. Clean all pieces thoroughly to make sure they are free of grease, film, dust and lint.
  5. Following the instructions on the can, apply the primer first. Use short, sweeping strokes to prevent overspray. Apply several light coats versus one heavy coat. If paint is applied too heavily, it might puddle or run; if this happens, sand smooth and reapply primer. Let dry.
  6. Following the instructions on the can, apply several light coats of Krylon Interior/Exterior or Krylon Brushed Metallic. Let dry.

Approximate project time: 30 minutes.

What it Costs:

Approximate cost is $5 - $10.
