Chandelier

Refresh an outdated light fixture from brass to beautiful in just a few simple steps. Contemporary finishes like Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze are in high demand.

What you need:

  • 2 cans Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer in a color close to your paint color
  • 2 cans Krylon Brushed Metallic in desired color
  • Masking Tape
  • Masking Material (newspaper, plastic sheeting or plastic bags)
  • Medium grit sandpaper

How and How Long:

  1. Cover your work surface with old newspaper or a drop cloth to protect it from overspray.
  2. Disassemble fixture, removing bulbs, glass globes, plastic pieces and other items that do not require painting.
  3. Clean all pieces thoroughly, so they are free of grease, film, dust, and lint. If necessary, use newspaper or plastic grocery bags and masking tape to mask off all areas that will not be painted.
  4. Following the instructions on the can, apply the black primer first. Use short sweeping strokes to prevent overspray. Apply several light coats versus one heavy coat. If paint is applied too heavily, it might puddle or run; if this happens, sand smooth and reapply primer. Let dry.
  5. Following the instructions on the can, apply several light coats of Krylon Brushed Metallic. Let dry.
  6. Remove all masking and reassemble fixture.
Approximate project time: 1.5 - 2 hours.

What it Costs:

Approximate cost is $20.
