Closet Doors

Potential buyers will open every closet door in your home. Make sure they notice yours for the right reason, a perfectly painted finish that compliments your home.

What you need:

  • 1 can Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer, per 2-sided door, in a color close to your paint color (optional)
  • 1 can Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint, per 2-sided door, in desired color
  • Screwdriver
  • Drop cloths or newspaper
  • Sandpaper, 150 grit
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Cleaning cloth

How and How Long:

  1. Remove any doorknobs or pulls and set aside. Remove the doors from the closet and place them in a well-ventilated area. Prop them vertically against a wall or other sturdy surface, making sure that the surrounding area is covered with newspaper or drop cloths.
  2. Using an all-purpose cleaner, thoroughly clean the door to remove any dirt, oils, and dust and let dry. Use sandpaper to remove loose paint and to smooth out any imperfections. Wipe clean to remove sanding residue.
  3. If door is bare wood or metal, use a primer first. Following the instructions on the can, apply several light coats of primer. Let dry.
  4. Next, following the instructions on the can, apply Krylon Indoor/Outdoor paint. Spraying evenly, begin at the top and move your way down the door. Apply several thin coats to avoid runs and drips.
  5. When the surfaces of the doors are dry, turn them over and repeat the process on the other side. Make sure to also paint the edges of the doors.
  6. Make sure both sides of the doors are completely dry before you reattach them to the closet. Reinstall door hardware.

Approximate project time: 1-2 hours.
