Fun & Functional Toy Boxes


  The kids are heading back to school and it's time to get organized! Take inspiration from their toys and create boxes that your kids will love to store their things in!

What you need:

  • Krylon Fusion for Plastic® - Patriotic Blue (#2329)

  • Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic - Crystal Clear Acrylic (#1303)
  • Krylon Short Cuts® Hobby/Craft Paint Pens - Gloss Black (#SCP914)
  • Krylon Short Cuts® Hobby/Craft Paint Pens - Gloss White (#SCP913)
  • Various boxes, containers or bins: shoe box, large lidded plastic storage, old large coffee cans (Pick containers large enough to store toys.)
  • Hot glue or super glue
  • Newspaper or drop cloth

Tips

Use toys as inspiration -- paint schemes such as camouflage pattern for an army men box, black with stars for space toys, scales for dinosaurs, and pink polk-a-dots for dolls. Use this idea for larger containers or toy boxes as well.

How and How Long:

  1. Set up a spray area by covering a table or other work surface with newspaper or drop cloth in a well ventilated area.
  2. If using old or used containers, clean well before painting making sure they are free of dirt or grease.
  3. Paint containers and let dry. Use one color for the base and a coordinating color for the lid.
  4. Glue toy to container that identifies the ones being stored.
  5. Embellish containers using paint pens if wanted. Paint your child's name, stars on space toy box, labels, etc.
  6. Give a protective finish with Crystal Clear Acrylic.
Approximate project time: 1 hour.

Ideas to Inspire

Use various Krylon paint colors of your choice to compliment kid's room or toys. For cardboard containers use Krylon Indoor/Outdoor paint. For plastic containers use Krylon Fusion paint. Use various Krylon Short Cuts Paint Pens to match colors. Black and white paint pens always work best if you want to label the storage containers.
