Outdoor Furniture

Show off your outdoor living space by painting your mismatched furniture with a few cans of Krylon in a coordinating color palette. Combine that with a handful of plants and accessories to turn a lackluster patio into an outdoor oasis.

What you need:

  • 4 cans Outdoor Spaces Satin Finish
  • Medium grit sandpaper
  • Drop cloth or newspaper
  • Latex Gloves (optional)
  • Masking tape (optional)

How and How Long:

  1. Cover your work surface with old newspaper or a drop cloth to protect it from overspray.
  2. If you are working with a table and are able to remove the legs, take apart the table, unscrewing screws and loosening bolts. It will be easier to paint in pieces.
  3. Make sure all pieces are clean and dry.
  4. Following the instructions on the can, apply several light coats of paint instead of one heavy coat. Use short sweeping strokes to help prevent overspray. If paint is applied too heavily, it might puddle or run; if this happens, sand smooth and reapply. Let dry.
  5. If you would like to paint any of the furniture pieces with multiple colors, mask off any areas that you do not want to spray using masking tape and if necessary, newspaper. Let each color dry to the touch before carefully removing the masking materials. Wait overnight between coats of additional colors.
  6. Let all pieces dry overnight before reassembling and using.

Approximate project time: 3 - 4 hours, depending on the number of colors used.

What it Costs:

Approximate cost is $20 - $30.
