Front Door

Welcome prospective buyers into your home with a freshly painted front door. Krylon has the colors you need to coordinate with your house and trim. With just a few simple steps, this project will bring your door back to life and add curb appeal too.

What you need:

  • 2 cans Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Primer in a color close to your paint color
  • 2 cans Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint in desired color
  • Drop cloth
  • Medium Grit Sandpaper
  • Tack cloth
  • Screwdriver
  • Masking tape

How and How Long:

  1. Remove door from frame. Remove door hardware, including knobs, locks and hinges, and set aside.
  2. Prop the door against something sturdy, like a wall or tree, making sure to protect the surrounding area from overspray with newspaper or drop cloth(s).
  3. Using an all-purpose cleaner, thoroughly clean the door to remove dirt, oils, and dust. Allow door to dry
  4. Use sandpaper to remove loose paint and to smooth imperfections. Wipe clean to remove sanding dust.
  5. Following the instructions on the can, apply several light coats of primer to the front and sides of the door. Use short sweeping strokes to prevent overspray.
  6. Following the instructions on the can, apply Krylon Indoor/Outdoor paint. Spraying evenly, begin at the top and move your way down the door. Apply several thin coats to avoid runs and drips. Wait 1 minute between coats.
  7. If desired, when the surface of the door is completely dry, turn the door over and repeat steps 3-6 on the other side.
  8. Make sure both sides of the door are completely dry before you reattach the door to the frame. Reinstall door hardware.
