Jeep Vehicle Makeover

Since I take my Jeep off-roading, what better way to paint a fading, beaten up Jeep than with spray paint? I chose to paint it up like an Army assault vehicle.

What you need:

  • (10) cans of Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Satin Italian Olive spray paint
  • 220 grit sandpaper
  • (1) can of mineral spirits
  • (3) rolls of blue painters tape
  • Sanding block
  • Newspaper to tape up windows

How and How Long:

  1. Remove the pinstripe from the vehicle. I used a heatgun and a razor to remove the pinstripe.
  2. Remove all the parts you dont want painted. (lights, roofrack, spare tire, etc.)
  3. Wash the vehicle.
  4. After washing the vehicle, you need to sand it down with 220 grit sandpaper.
  5. After you finish sanding, you need to wipe the entire vehicle down with some Acetone or mineral spirits to clean the surface.
  6. Paint the door jams. (This step may require removal of some interior panels depending on model of vehicle).
  7. After prep and painting the door jams, mask off the windows and lights. Just use any paper you have laying around.
  8. Ok now for the fun stuff: PAINT! Break out all the spray paint you bought and start spraying. Make sure you have a clear area to paint and no other cars are parked nearby! I advise you to do one complete light coat first then a final coat after. Krylon covers quite well.
  9. After letting the paint dry for an hour, you can remove the masking on the windows. Before taking off the tape, use a stencil to paint on numbers.
  10. Now reinstall the parts you took off. (lights, roof rack, etc.)
  11. Optional: Adding a front bullguard and paint it to match the truck. 1) Sand down bullguard with 200 grit sandpaper; 2) Wipedown with acetone; 3) Paint with duplicolor truckbed paint; 4) Install.
