Camouflage Jeep

I painted my prize 1974 CJ5 Jeep using Krylon Camouflage spray paint.

What you need:

  • (23) cans of Krylon Camouflage spray paint
  • (12) cans of Krylon Clear Matte Finish
  • (1) can of mineral spirits
  • Old Jeep
  • Sandpaper
  • Newspaper
  • Painters tape

How and How Long:

  1. Remove all the parts you do not want painted (lights, roofrack, spare tire, etc.).
  2. Wash the vehicle thoroughly.
  3. After washing the vehicle, sand it down with sandpaper.
  4. After sanding, wipe the entire vehicle down with some Acetone or mineral spirits to really clean the surface.
  5. Paint the door jams. (This step may require removal of some interior panels depending on model of vehicle).
  6. After prep and painting the door jams, mask off the windows and lights.
  7. PAINT! Break out all the spray paint start spraying. Make sure you have a clear area to paint and no other cars are parked nearby! I advise you to do one complete light coat first and allow time to dry.
  8. Spray the entire jeep again, repeat sanding. You need to do this at least 5 times to get smooth and durable finish.
  9. Finish with two matte clear coats with a mild wet sanding between the two.
  10. After letting the paint dry for an hour, you can remove the masking on the windows.
  11. Now reinstall the parts you took off (lights, roof rack, etc.).
Approximate project time: 4 hours.

What it Costs:

Cost is $150 for spray paint and supplies.
