Poe-Inspired Raven Artwork

I made this artwork based on Poe's poem "The Raven". It's a great decoration for Halloween!

What you need:

  • (1) can Krylon Metallics in Nickel
  • (1) can Krylon Black Indoor/Outdoor paint
  • (1) can White Indoor/Outdoor spary paint
  • (1) Plywood board
  • Contact paper
  • Electronic cutting tool
  • Stencils or stick on lettering
  • Exact-o knife
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Watered down silver acrylic paint

How and How Long:

  1. Prime plywood board.
  2. Spray with the Nickel paint.
  3. Use cutter to cut out first few lines of the poem out of contact paper.
  4. Arrange letters and stick down to board.
  5. Spray entire board with white paint, including over the tops of the stuck on letters.
  6. Create a stencil with the word Nevermore and create one with the shape of a raven.
  7. Place stencils where you want them and tape off/protect the rest of the board.
  8. Spray black paint on the stenciled areas.
  9. When dry peel off the stencils and the original lettering.
  10. Lightly sand when dry.
  11. Lightly wash with silver acrylic wash.
