Stacked-Hat-Box Snowman

Put scarf and top hat on a stack of hatboxes, painted and decorated as a smiling snowman. A great seasonal decoration or holiday gift box.

What you need:

  • (1) can Krylon White Indoor/Outdoor Primer
  • (1) can Krylon Gloss White Indoor/Outdoor spray paint
  • (1) can Gloss Black Indoor/Outdoor spray paint
  • Acrylic craft paint in white, black, orange and red
  • Set of graduated stacked paper mache hat boxes
  • 1/8 yard fleece
  • 12" x 18" black craft foam
  • 1 yard of 1" grosgrain ribbon
  • Feather (optional)
  • Tiny paint brushes for detail painting
  • White craft glue

How and How Long:

  1. Begin by giving all the paper mache boxes two light coats of White Primer spray paint.
  2. Give the smallest box 2-3 light coats of Gloss Black spray paint for the snowman hat.
  3. The other three boxes should be sprayed with 2-3 light coats of Gloss White spray paint for the snowman body.
  4. Cut out a 12" circle from the black craft foam for the hat brim and glue to the bottom of the black box.
  5. Use white craft glue to attach a grosgrain ribbon around the base of the black box. Add a feather, if desired.
  6. Transfer the face pattern to the top box of the snowman. Use acrylic craft paints to paint in the features.
  7. Trace a coin such as a nickel or dime to make a row of buttons down the center of the snowman. Paint the circles black for buttons. 8. Cut out a scarf from fleece. Fringe the ends of the scarf. Fold the scarf in half and tie around the top of the middle box. Secure with a bit of white craft glue.

Approximate project time: 1 hour.
