JOY Holiday Wall Art

Bring joy to your world with a cute painted shelf hung with painted wooden letters. What better way to showcase your holiday cards?

What you need:

  • (1) can Krylon Banner Red Indoor/Outdoor spray paint
  • (1) can Krylon Avocado Indoor/Outdoor spray paint
  • (1) can Krylon White Indoor/Outdoor Primer
  • (1) 18 KT Gold Krylon Leafing Pen
  • Large letters to spell "JOY"
  • Thin gold ribbon/cord for hanging
  • Drop cloth
  • Scrap paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun and glue sticks (or other strong adhesive or tape)

How and How Long:

  1. Cover work surface with drop cloth and place letters on top. Spray several light coats of White Primer on "J", "O" and "Y" letters. Let dry completely.
  2. Spray "J" and "Y" letters with several light coats of Avocado until covered completely. Let dry completely.
  3. Spray "O" letter with several light coats of Banner Red until covered completely. Let dry completely.
  4. Using 18 KT Gold Leafing Pen, prime pen tip as directed on packaging by pressing up and down on scrap paper. Hold pen at a 45 degree angle to the front edge of each letter and carefully outline letter with paint so that half the pen tip puts paint on the front of the letter, and half the pen tip puts paint on the side of the letter. Use scrap paper to bring more paint to pen tip as needed.
  5. After outlining each letter, use Leafing Pen to completely paint the sides of each letter. Let dry completely.
  6. Cut lengths of gold ribbon/cord to hang each of the letters. Cut a longer length for the "O" if you'd like it to hang below the other letters. Use strong glue or tape to adhere the ribbon/cord to each letter.
  7. Hang from a shelf or peg rail to display. (Note: the shelf in this photo was painted with Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint in Leather Brown).

Approximate project time: 1 hour.

What it Costs:

Cost is $15 for three cans of spray paint and $10 for additional supplies.
