Pinecone Swag

Simple and simply elegant. A glamorous gold ribbon wraps up a trio of gold-painted pinecones for your front door.

What you need:

  • (1) can Krylon Brilliant Metallic-Gold spray paint
  • (1) can Krylon White Indoor/Outdoor Primer
  • Several large, oversized pinecones
  • 1 ݢ wide gold ribbon
  • Wreath hanger for door
  • Drop cloth
  • Floral wire

How and How Long:

  1. Thread an 18" length of floral wire around the bottom, widest part of the pinecone and pull tight so the wire is wrapped around the inside center of the cone. Double the wire so the ends meet and twist the wire around itself several times. Do this for all three pinecones
  2. Place pinecones on a flat surface that has been covered with a drop cloth. Spray several light coats of White Primer covering all surfaces of pinecones. You will need to turn the pinecones and spray from all directions to cover all the nooks and crannies of the surface. A completely white primed surface will make the gold more brilliant than just spraying over the brown pinecones. Let dry completely.
  3. Spray several light coats of Briliant Metallic Gold on pinecones in the same way until you have solidly painted the pinecones and can no longer see any white or brown or original wire color. Let dry completely.
  4. Taking all 3 pinecones in hand, arrange them so they are hanging from the wires and you are pleased with the placement. Twist the wires around each other and loop to create a hanger.
  5. Make a bow from gold ribbon and attach over the wire that the pine cones are hanging from. Hang from wreath hanger on door.

Approximate project time: 2 hours.
