Glowing Ghostly Globes

Don't have the time or desire to carve several messy pumpkins? Try this easy twist for a spooky All Hallow's Eve. Use these ghostly globes to add some glow to your buffet, or separate them onto individual tables for a "supernatural" feel. Wind them up your walkway to attract trick-or-treaters. Or give them away as gifts!

What you need:

  • (1) can Krylon White Frosted Glass spray paint (#9040)
  • Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint Flat White (#51502)
  • (1) can Krylon Glowz Glow-in-the-Dark spray paint (#3150)
  • (1) Krylon Short Cuts Hobby/Craft Paint Pens - Gloss Black (#SCP914)
  • Round glass votives
  • Newspaper

Tips

For a more traditional Halloween, use Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Paint in Pumpkin Orange (#52411) instead of Bright White for an easy Jack-O-Lantern! Have friends and family help with drawing the faces, make it part of a game and let guests take them home at the end of the night!

How and How Long:

  1. Set up a spray area by covering a table or other work surface with newspaper. It helps to place an extra smaller piece of newspaper under each individual votive that you can use to rotate the individual votive while you spray. This is particularly useful if you are unable to move around your work surface freely.
  2. Begin spraying several light coats of Frosted Glass Finish on the lip of each votive. This area is the opening of the votive that will be resting on the newspaper. It is not necessary to saturate the lip as the idea is to create a "disappearing" gradation of white to add to the ghostly illusion. Let dry completely.
  3. Spray several light coats of Bright White on the bottoms of the votives until coverage is solid while concentrating on blending the white seamlessly with the frosted glass. Let dry completely.
  4. Spray entire exterior of all the vases with Glowz so that when your votives are not lit, they will still glow-in-the-dark, welcoming dusk. Let dry completely.
  5. Finally, freehand facial features (eyes and mouths) with a Black Paint Pen to give each ghost a personality!
Approximate project time: 2 hours.
